CMLS Financial is looking for a motivated, customer-focused, resourceful problem-solver with commercial mortgage experience to join our Vancouver team as an Account Manager. The Account Manager will be responsible for assisting the Director, Credit and Commercial Servicing in the post-funding management of a sizeable commercial mortgage portfolio. The successful candidate will perform diverse account management functions, ensuring compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements and mortgage underwriting best practices. Preferably, the successful candidate will have proven success in Commercial Real Estate (“CRE”) credit, however, we will give serious consideration to candidates who are CPA or have experience in at least one of the following business areas:  commercial portfolio management, and account management.  Experience in mortgage funding and mortgage servicing would be considered an asset.  The ability to review and analyze corporate financial statements is a must have.  This role is a non-sales position and accordingly has no sales goals. This role is ideal for a commercial mortgage analyst looking to supplement their underwriting background with a combination of legal, loan structuring, loan surveillance, default, portfolio management, and compliance experience.

Your core responsibilities and accountabilities are:
  • Interface with Investor(s) and Borrower(s) relative to negotiation/management of various loan issues (i.e. insurance claims settlements, expropriations, building stratifications, satisfying loan undertakings, processing escrow releases, and mortgage assumptions);
  • Loan documentation review/interpretation;
  • Timely satisfaction of tasks and application writing while remaining in compliance with servicing contract requirements;
  • Coordination/management of numerous parties (lawyers, borrowers, investors, originators, etc.) relative to specific account management tasks;
  • Watch list monitoring and early arrears administration;
  • Business case preparation and credit recommendation;
  • Doing your best work and being proud of it;
  • Other duties as required
This role is for you if:
  • You have experience in commercial mortgage funding, servicing/administration, account management, and/or commercial real estate credit analysis;
  • Excellent knowledge of commercial real-estate with emphasis on income producing real estate in the four main sectors (multi-family, industrial, office and retail);
  • You have experience in underwriting, administering, or servicing CMHC-insured loans (multi-family real estate assets);
  • In lieu of direct real estate/real estate lending experience, you have completed an undergraduate degree in one of the following programs: finance, economics, urban land development, accounting, or business administration or a specific diploma program from a public university or college;
  • You have strong customer focus with the ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Be familiar with mortgage law, loan agreements, and security agreements; and you will be able to articulate problems, challenges, or solutions in real estate loan terms and conditions;
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity in developing action and realization plans that, whenever possible, satisfy are a ‘win’ for both CMLS and the Borrower;
  • Thrive in in an environment with minimal day-to-day management but be accountable to report into a Manager;
  • You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and understand that email is a tool to facilitate communication and not a replacement for talking to or meeting with Stakeholders;
  • You have a passion for real estate combined with an understanding of financial statement analysis;
  • You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail;
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • You have proven ability to work on and prioritize work tasks in order to manage multiple deadlines;
  • You are an intermediate to advanced level user of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word);
  • You are flexible and are able to quickly develop strategies to overcome obstacles; and
  • You have a passion to learn and you have a passion to share learning with others
