Position Overview

The Business Development Manager works within their assigned territory to generate new business with mortgage brokers, cultivate and strengthen existing relationships and provide exceptional and on-going support to prospective and existing clients in order to secure long-term success of our business. This position plays an integral role to support the Director Sales in securing key broker relationships and provides guidance to other team members through coaching, mentoring and motivating.

Position Responsibilities

Business Development

Market HTC’s wide range of financial products to generate new sales

Prospect assigned territory for new business

Participate in developing new sales strategies to increase market share within assigned territory

Recognize any cross/up sell opportunities

Keep current with industry trends

Account Management  

Educate Mortgage Brokers on Home Trust's policies and procedures

Develop, strengthen and maintain broker relationships

Conduct speaking engagements and present key information to Broker partners

Work effectively with all internal and external business partners to achieve required organizational & regional/territory goals and achieve excellence

Conduct routine visits to identify, develop and maintain solid relationships and a strong presence with brokers and their referrals

Conduct regular debriefs meetings with the underwriting unit to ensure their feedback is incorporated into sales process and any issues addressed immediately

Maintain & evaluate consistent objective and sound risk assessment in a high volume, quality and service oriented environment

Accountable for increasing efficiency ratios

Sales Strategy

Analyse business opportunities and create plans to maintain continuity, growth and attainment of sales objectives

Remain current on all related HTC services and offerings, latest market trends, and participate in industry events to secure competitive advantage

Conduct large sized speaking engagements

Provide thought leadership relating to the mortgage industry


Provide the highest level of service and support to external brokers inquiries and funding team

Maintain a best-in-class relationship with sales, brokers, and brokerage houses

Respond to mortgage broker account inquiries and following up internally with various departments resolving any issues and complaints in a timely manner

When called upon, investigate and respond to broker inquiries in a timely manner

Liaise with marketing and recommend opportunities to achieve objectives through monitoring the effectiveness of the current and promotional programs

Formal Education

Bachelor's degree required in Business, Economics or equivalent

Certification(s)/Designation(s) preferred

Related Experience

Min 3+ years experience in mortgage sales experience in the alt-A space preferred

Strong understanding of mortgage lending

Position Complexities

Bilingualism an asset

Some travel/work beyond standard hours

Must own car and have valid driver's licence/insurance
