Who are we looking for?
We are looking for bright, detailed and passionate about lending individual to join our team as the Underwriting Assistant and provide administrative support to the Mortgage Underwriters so that they can operate in an efficient manner. The position is responsible for planning and carrying out the administrative duties and ensuring timely flow of accurate information in all aspects of new mortgage/loan development and processing.
Major duties and responsibilities
Underwriting Assistant assists the Mortgage Underwriters in achieving sales targets across all parameters of the business plan by providing excellent administrative support, as follows:
Assist in the application process including, but not limited to, all pertinent personal and credit information from the broker/client, confirm employment, salary and source of down payment and submit application with the recommendation for approval.
Validate and follow-up on mortgage/loan conditions and supporting documents.
Ensure all forms are accurately completed.
Proactively provide exceptional broker service by demonstrating professionalism, commitment to service and following up with every broker interaction when directed.
Communicate with mortgage brokers (when directed), solicitors, underwriters and management regarding mortgage status, requirements and conditions.
Provide administrative support to Mortgage Administration department when directed.
Ensure service level agreements are being met.
Assist with preparation of mortgage scorecards and the rudimentary content of write ups when directed.
Assist Mortgage Underwriters in carrying out their business plan when directed.
Ensure mortgage/loan files are complete, organized and approvals finalized prior to preparing file for instructions to Solicitor.
Monitor the file with Funding until file is complete.
Maintain confidentiality of all client information and files at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Factors that will contribute to your success
At minimum, 1-2 years of work experience in mortgage administration or lending role.
Completion of high school diploma; completion of post-secondary education and/or courses/certificates with focus on mortgages and real estate preferred.
Strong interpersonal, team player, customer service and communication skills; ability to effectively deal with a range of people.
Ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and sensitive issues.
Effective organizational, multi-tasking, priority setting and time-management skills with ability to follow up and follow through independently; strong sense of urgency.
Ability to work with strict deadlines and maintain composure under pressure.
Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong work ethic skills; self-motivated; take ownership, accountability and initiative.
Very good English communication skills (written and oral).
Strong computer skills in using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook; knowledge and experience in preparing reports, spreadsheets and creating correspondence.
Professional, team oriented, office environment.
Standard corporate business hours based on 37.5 hour work week: Monday to Wednesday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Thursday to Friday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm; ability to work overtime, if required.
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by being able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job; these include, but are not limited to: sitting, considerable use of computer and phone, seldom moving of items up to 25 pounds in weight.
Ability to work at our Yorkdale-Glen Park location in Toronto, ON, from time to time, as assigned.
